I bought this great capri set off of ebay, but alas didn't read the description well enough because it is silk. I do not want to have to keep taking it to the cleaners, but I am wonderinf if I can hand wash it in cold and line dry? It is coral color with orangely embroidered palm trees so the color won't run.
Thoughts?

It really depends how much you like it! I do hand wash all our silk things, well dd's actually, her clothes are much nicer than mine! I use a detergent for woollens, and wash in very tepid, almost cool, water. Also I squeeze the water out very gently then hang the garment dripping on the line, or on a drying rack, in the shade.

Thanks - I have a drying rack so I think I am going to give it a try.

Ok, I have to know - did you wash them, and if so, how did it go??

If you haven't yet Cheryl, I just came across a little tidbit in my Sew News mag today. It said that seeings as silk is older than washing machines, of course you may hand wash it. Wash in cool water in the sink with a mild detergent. Agitate it up and down with your hands a bit. Drain out the water and put fresh cool water in the sink. Rinse and drain the water again. Then rinse under running cool water until all soap residue is gone. Gently squeeze (do not twist as it will not only damage the fibers, but put wrinkles in the garment you will never get out!) the excess water out, then roll in a bath towel to get out as much water as you can. For light weight garments, hang on either a plastic or wooden hanger to dry, heavier items lay flat to dry.
