Well I went down yesterday to pick the peas, and lets just say, my garden is a total disaster area from all the rain I hadn't seen it, but dh informed me that it was sitting in about two inches of water during the rains....I was stupid and went in and sunk deep in mud ... My potatoes are a mess, all the vines are flattened, and some of the potatoes are surfaced and green Hopefully the sun will dry things out and we can get in to work on the damage....I told dh that this may be my last year, because I can't handle all the hard work just to have it ruined

Oh Jayne, I am so sorry. We got about 5 inches in places over near our dd's. Our dd's garden is a complete disaster. I feel so badly for them. They planted so much but the creek got up high and just washed it all away. Dh told them not to plant there but you know kids..LOL
Anyway, I hope you can salvage something.

Jayne, I'm so sorry, that's terrible. Don't lose heart though, it is an awful thing, but gardens do spring back, and it's such a wonderful sight when they're blooming again. I think gardening is an expression of hope and faith.

Jayne I think it might be OK too. I have lived in high rainfall areas, but haven't had it happen recently to be able to picture clearly what will happen next.
I am so sorry about you being in the mud.
And Cara, floods wash away so much, I'm sorry they had to learn from experience the poor things. I remember my uncle with drift stuff on fences that were flatened that had to be put back etc.
I guess we had the advantage of knowing where the water went etc. I remember going hunting downstream for missing things.

Vines are pretty tough Jayne.

All I can suggest is to cover the potatoes, the winds will dry it out quickly. They always come after something like this. Eat up any split tomatoes. There may be a bit of mud to wash off any zucchinis, but that is easy done with you hand under the cold water tap.
