This has been on my mind.
This is what I remember. You fill up the machine with water. You sort your clothes and put in the whites first. You turn it on, usually it is for only 3-4 from what I remember. When it is finished you put the clothes in the spinner.
You have a sink full of warm water and put them into that. Then back in spinner and then into basket. You reuse the water for the next less colorful and slightly more dirty washing. Usually there are about 4 or 5 piles?

Well, I didn't ever give it a name, but when I washed clothes by hand, that's pretty much how I did it, except I didn't have a spinner, I just gave them a good wring! In the Lehmans's catalog, I believe you can get a double sink but I don't know about a "spinner". I could get the sink on special order at our local hardware store as well. www.lehmans.com/I'd have to look up what a spinner is...not the same as a wringer attachment?

I have the twin tub in my new house, twin sinks.
The twin tub washing machine or washer, has a place for water on the left, well I am assuming they are still the same. On the right a smaller place with a lift up lid is a cylinder, metal I think where to put the clothes and put the lid down and it spins the clothes either at the same speed as automatic washers or faster like some modern washers, particularly Fischer & Paykel. They don't overspin, as in those days when I did it, the water went into the sink and you could see when the water started to slow down and you lifted the lid.

My grandmother lived in Brisbane, Queensland, and when we went to visit her I was fascinated by her washing machine. It had a wringer attached, which you fed the clothes through once they were washed.
Not a big deal for someone living alone, I suppose, but I personally love any technology that does things quicker, easier, cleaner and more efficiently water/power-wise than I do!!
