I noticed that more and more, we are all sitting together at the kitchen table after supper, just talking, laughing with the boys....Patrick will tell us something funny he saw on tv~he always does that...lol...Daniel often is drawing on the corner of the table and Mathieu is the one who talks most with us. We still need to convince to stay more than 10 minutes at the table during supper....he is always pressed to see his friends... The radio is often on...we like to listen to this talk show everyday at 6 pm and it's usually about what's happening around here in Quebec...the kids don't always like it though. They woudl rather listen to their music... lol...oh well...when they get tired of being with Pierre and I, they usually end up in the living room listening their music, playing guitare or just watching tv.... I was wondering, do you also spend some time just sitting and talking with your family members? Do you play cards or watch a special tv show together?....What do you do that brings you together, even if it's not a *special activity* ?

The guitar is starting to feature in our family life as well. I'll start there and I may remember some more. This morning ds14 played a song on the way past and I was to guess what it was. I think it was a Kiss song. You have to remember that he has never had guitar lessons, and yet he played this song and I guessed it, and all done one note at a time, not chords. This is the same kid who drives piano teachers, well he is a challenge.
This guitar hung on our old home's wall by a shoelace for years, it was an old one. This year dd's teacher fixed it and he taught dd to play in lessons at school. So I guess the musical side to ds made him think he could do that too.
DS14 talks about science. At the table tonight in amongst the girls wandering off, it is like juggling lol, he was talking about global warming because of the weather, because we said it was going to snow again. The tallest mountain in Aussie had just stripes of snow on it on the weekend. Then they talked about hydro power, how much gas Australia has left underground in years, how they can compress it etc. etc. As least I learn something as well.
That was today, I will see what happens tomorrow lol.

BR, I think that is wonderful that your children like music and can play without lessons! WTG to your children! What an interesting dinner table that must be at your house, can I come and have dinner too? ;D

Well it is just Jack and I Lucie, so yeah we talk all during dinner. Mainly me, which is the norm around here. Don't mess with Jack and his 'groceries' as he calls food! ROFL ;D
I think it is wonderful that you are trying to get the boys to talk about their days. It makes it much easier as they get to be older teens to have them open up to you I think.
Good job Lucie and Pierre!

We use to, but now it seems Daniel is more interested in "his life" than ours! LOL We do have the Family meals (all 3) on the weekend just so we can catch up on each others lives. That's when we do our most talking. We do get a few "quick" stories in during the evening but nothing big. Lots of laughs and silliness during the meals and such great fun to hear them speak of their week. TV? well we don't (or try not to) watch too much of it unless we rent a movie. In my opinon TV has gone down the drain. (just my 2¢) Daniel plays guitar as well and he too has never had a lesson, and can not read music!! but he plays beautifully (even some of the music I don't care for). Don works so late anymore that when he comes in he gets on the computer , does some paperwork then hits the shower and off to bed.

LOL How I'd like to see your Jack when he says this! ;D Linda, sounds like your dinner table talks are as lively as ours! lol My boys don't talk much about the enviroment yet...I think they are tired of hearing us talking about it already since their little! lol! I think I may had overdosed them in saving the earth already... Ellise, I understand completely about Daniel focusing more on *his life*......François has been like this for the past two years....it started at 14 yrs. old and I am starting to see some *slight* change that he is starting to be *interested* in us, again....lol.... My boys too, play by ear, the guitare. I offered to pay them lessons, but they don't want to. I find they are getting pretty good even without the lessons. Hearing that your children also play guitare and I've seen alot of teenagers play the guitare around here...it's really popular among the teens, compared to when I was a teen. It seems everyone plays, now. Do you think?...

Lucie, where we live just about every boy in the HIgh School is in a "band" I have never seen so many guitar players in my life.

We have a band at our school too. They are some of my son's friends I don't know why he doesn't just join in. He could play the keyboard. They are boys from church so I don't think it would hurt.

I know there will come a day when the girls won't want to spend time with us but with their friends. So until then I cherish every minute I spend with them. I love the family dinner. We actually go around the table and talk about our days. They love to bake with me, so we do that often. We do watch tv with them, namely Survivor, American Idol, and Deal or No Deal. We enjoy all of them, and it's nice to be able to enjoy shows that they like too. Friday nights are game nights here, so we play cards or board games then. You're right, Dee. I want them to feel so comfortable talking to me that they will feel comfortable coming to me with their problems/questions/issues when they're teens and beyond
