I just couldn't help myself; the new series of Australian Idol started last night and I sat down and watched.
There was the usual run of people who really couldn't sing, but thought they could, which is torture to watch - I can't bear seeing their dreams destroyed. However, a couple of young kids stood up there and out of their mouths came beautiful voices, it was wonderful.
I love seeing how they develop as the show goes along. It is honestly the only TV I sit down and watch. Oh, apart from the wonderful BBC program "Grumpy Old Women" which I find hilarious - and relevant!

Before I read your post I will tell what happened to me.
I have two DVDs of All Creatures Great and Small and I was going to watch the next episode. I accidently put in the wrong CD and watched one episode, then realised what I had done. Then dh told me about idol.
I wasn't impressed with Melbourne, or Broken Hill, where my dd's friend is now.
And even worse, my town rep. I wasn't impressed with either. I assure you I haven't seen too many like that down the street. I was there today.
How embarassing watching that bare ... with my little girl watching. And yes, it was torture, it hurt my ears.
I haven't watched Grumpy Old Women. I feel I go into a world of my own with idol, so if it doesn't affect the kids too much I guess I will watch it again. I guess the auditions are the hardest.
Hope I am not being too negative, sorry contestants, I know you are nice, just not what I expected.

It would be very hard not to watch Mark I have been a fan for a very long time, and the show is very exciting. Not sure I like the new voting rules, not that I know much about them, because Rikki Lee could have genuinely been voted out.

I had to read your post twice, Br, to jog my memory about those bits. During one horrid contestant's time, I switched to "60 Minutes" and watched a segment. I must have missed your town. Also, didn't see the person's bottom. Must admit that I close my eyes or leave the room if they're just too stupid, though! I'm probably more annoyed than offended by what they show on Idol, but then there are no little children here. I'm never impressed by the fellows who tear their shirts off, or the women who are dressed to catch attention for everything BUT their voices!
I think it was in the NT that there was a 16 year old boy wearing unusual clothes, who had a lovely voice. And a sweet girl, also 16, who plays the piano, had a beautiful voice, she was lovely.
There was a nice looking young bloke originally from South Africa who sang while playing the guitar, he was quite good too.
They seem to choose contestants who behave nicely, so hopefully once the auditions are over, it will be better to watch.
My sister loves those DVD's you have, Br.
