Dd and I have been debating whether our public library will remain free or if they will start charging a fee to rent books. They always complain that there are no funds for things they need and the govt keeps cutting their funds so I expect them to starting charging a rental fee on books sometime in the near future. Is your library still free or have they gone to some kind of rental fees? Do/will you pay rental fees for a book?

I would pay a small fee--in fact often do, since I hardly ever return things on time! LOL. But here in Chicago, they are all still free and happily so. I really hope they stay that way--such a great resource and available to everyone right now!

Still free here! Thank goodness! I don't think I would use them as much if I had to pay a fee. Just a thought.

Still free here. In fact, i've never heard of a library charging fees except for late returns of course.

As far as I know yes, mine is still free. I don't go much because it isn't a very good library and they have the strangest hours I've ever seen!
I think you do have to pay for an inter-library loan book, but not sure how much.

Ours is free, but I would gladly pay a small fee, if necessary. I can never find a book I'm looking for and they charge for an interlibrary loan. I usually just go to ebay or half.com and buy the book I'm looking for nowadays.
