Does anyone else remember the book mobile coming to your school?...It is one of my fondest memories!!!...It would come from the big city library once a month, and it was such a thrill for me!!!!...I remember getting my first library card and the sweet old gentleman who drove the book mobile and was also the librarian...One time I took out so many books I could hardly carry them home!!!!..

Yes, I remember Jayne..and you know what, they still have the bookmobile here in Pike Co, Kentucky. I just saw it the other day sitting in front of the library..:-) Love it and hope the children of today will still enjoy it.

Jayne, The bookmobile would stop right in front of my house!!! I was in heaven! I'd even bake cookies and bring nice cool drinks out to the drivers because they were sooooo good to me!

It's been years since our county had a bookmobile. It used to stop at a tiny little store near my rural house, when I was a kid. It was the highlight of the day, I loved it!!

Oh yes Jayne..sure was. We thought having the bookmobile bring us books during the summer months was the next best thing to going to the library at school to check them out. Kids today need so much more to entertain and make them happy..SIGH

When our eldest daughter was in grade prep, which is kindergarten I think, we had a book mobile that stopped outside their little school. I was driving them out to the country annex of our school. It had one room, and visiting teachers. It was great to use the mobile library, although after awhile it stopped.
Then when we went to live at the farmhouse for a year, it was in a district that had a mobile library. That was in 2003. Once our little girl who was 1 took the paper piece stuck in the back off, and for some reason I was labelled a book's worst enemy so we enjoyed the book mobile, but I was always worried lol.
That particular mobile was linked to a Melbourne library near a large university, so I was able to get some great books. It stopped near a beautiful creek. The kids loved it.
These days we see the mobile library coming to our town with interlibrary loans. It is a large truck, and I saw it a few days ago. I get excited and tell our 4 year old here comes the truck with all the books, and maybe it has something for us, (ie the books we have ordered on the internet).
