I love my library. Just finished "Still Life with Chickens" by C. Goldhammer, which I really liked. Not a fast-paced, action-packed book, but a lovely read about her change in life style/status. And her chickens!
This morning an email arrived to say that Jodie Picoult's "Plain Truth" is waiting to be collected.
There are 5 libraries in our local Council area, and, when I get a hot tip on a book, I simply go to the online catalogue and look for it. If all copies of the book are checked out, it can be reserved for $1.70 (just went up) and they email when it arrives. If the book is not at the library I usually go to, I can email and request it be sent there. There's no charge for that.
Now really, how good is it to be able to read any book I want, usually for free, but at the worst case a cost of $1.70? Best of all, I don't need to find storage for them!
Is your library the same?

If your library is anything like the one at Bundoora, I would love it.
In mine I elected to have notifications by mail like I did in my hometown, but usually the girls tell me when they come back from there. It costs nothing for us. Our library doesn't have everything, though usually they have something by the author. They have bought two of my recommendations, and were very responsive. The book came in less time than it would buying it in especially if it comes from overseas. It got put in the catalogue very quickly.

Here in Georgia, we have the Pines system. We can "borrow" a book from any library within the state for 50 cents. But it is very s l o w.....
An inner city loan is much faster, but the selection isn't as vast as the state, of course.
I'm notified via phone when requested materials are in. It always makes my day to get those calls! LOL.

We can borrow from any library in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area, and also inter-library if we fill out a form. The first ILL is free, and it's $2 after that. We can also rent newer books for $2 each. But, I generally just put myself on the hold list and wait....and wait....
