I like to read for pleasure. TV is not a particular interest of mine, but I can spend hours reading.
A well written non-fiction book can capture my attention too, especially if it's about household finances, money-saving, or gardening. I may not follow any of the suggestions, but I enjoy dreaming!
More factual reference books will only be sought if I'm gathering info about a specific topic, whether for my own interest or too help the kids with an essay.
I think I'm rather lazy intellectually!

I nearly pressed modify again, I guess I modify my own posts alot.
I don't watch TV at all now. I have started watching You Are What You Eat on Sundays, maybe I will watch Idol again soon.
I have read one book this season I think. I feel I am a bit more unavailable when I am reading.
I feel at the moment I can do the intellectual stuff in patches. The test will be when dd goes back to school.
I get more frustrated with magazines these days. Maybe it is a sign of old age?
I was telling cara in a thread I haven't dreamt so much lately. Although I probably can about recipes, although picky there too.
I try not to help the kids with projects, although I do a little. I helped with a debate on Thurs. night, that was on the internet though. The debate was about school uniforms. My daughter was crying. Luckily the debate went well and they lost by a small margin.
I love House & Garden for their garden section. I bought my first one in years, as usual I was taken with the lambs ears and traditional pic.
The magazine I was frustrated with actually had a bit in it about money.
Hmm. Have to think about this some more.

I think information can come from anywhere, but fiction is probably best treated as entertainment.
You're quite right about being less available when reading, but once the kids are all at school it's much easier to read without guilt!
