I'm so excited, it arrived today! It's about a million pages thick and will teach me how to deliver babies, keep chickens, everything! Not sure whether either of those skills will come in handy, but you never know.
Someone had posted about this book a long time ago in a food storage thread and I've been drooling over it on Amazon ever since. Finally, I heard about a site called fishpond.com.au that appears to buy from Amazon to sell to the Australian and New Zealand markets, so shipping is much less.
I can't wait to start looking through it!!!

I will have to check out fishpond again.

A qucik skim has left me impressed. Br, it might be cheaper to visit than to buy it - all up it was $53, but I do think it will be worth it.
I think it will be a great reference book, I would like to get one for each child as they leave home. However, I'll read a bit more before I make that expensive judgement.
I really am so excited, I've wanted this for so long!! Now I've got too much to read lol!!

I liked the description "catch a pig and cook on a woodstove", I think they are interesting.
I was so disappointed once to realise that all the wood my parents had and my Grandparents, both sets, was only for their stove. It makes my husband look like a giant in the land heating the whole house. No really. It is amazing, parents and grandparents are impressive and it was a surprise.

They were so much more economical in their use of everything in the last generation I think.
As for catching a pig and cooking it, well, not me!

In the country in those days they had oil heaters. They became too expensive to run, although I do know of one family that still uses theirs.

Well I've read a whole chapter, but really it would be a valid purchase as a reference book. There isn't anything this woman can't do, she really has left the most brilliant legacy.

Have you delivered any babies yet? Just think, you could become a midwife, Violet. I'd rather do that than try to catch a pig. Nope. Now cooking it wouldn't be a problem, cleaning it would! Eeeewwww I've read alot about Carla Emery. I admire her very much.
