I've always read whatever the kids are reading, from the days when I would read to them to when they read novels for school.
With dd now aged 16, many books aimed at her age group cover the usual teenage dramas. I really enjoy reading many of them, as a reminder of what it was like being 16, and also so that I can discuss them with her when she's read them.
Having finished all of my library books, I read one of hers yesterday. It's titled "Alice Macleod, Realist at Last" by Susan Juby, and gosh it was funny. It appears to be set in Canada. There were some situations in there you wouldn't like to see your kid in, but she stood up for herself, in a realistic way. I really enjoyed it because the hero, while thoroughly self-centered in the way only a 16 year old can be, was deliberately "different" and stood up for herself.

I had to go pay my rates, and it happens to be in the library building. dd got two small books, and I got a Clancy Of The Overflow picture book for her, I haven't read it yet. I hadn't looked in it, but it looks great inside! www.the-rathouse.com/ClancyoftheOverflow.htmlI think my teen is ready Shakespeare! Maybe I should read it.

I haven't yet learned to appreciate Shakespeare, Br, but Clancy of the Overflow has always been a favorite poem of mine. The book sounds lovely.

I think I am still slightly traumatised by the constant washing of hands in Macbeth lol.
