I laughed my way through the excerpt from this book and knew I just had to read the whole thing.
So far it's living up to its promise. The author is describing his childhood in 1950's Des Moines, Iowa, in an evocative and very amusing way. He's either done a lot of research, or is very, very observant.
I'm loving his descriptions of the new prosperity in America at that time, when whole discussions could center around which refrigerator is best. It's consumerism, but still innocent somehow. Quite irreverent.

That's the one. I should warn you there are a few swear words in there, placed for maximum emphasis, maybe one every couple of chapters.
It is a really funny read, and I recognise so much of what he writes about in my own upbringing. He was born in 1951 in Iowa, I was born 7 years later in California, so many common experiences.
I'm really enjoying this one.

I was hoping it was something like that. I wonder how many similar books there are you would enjoy for that kind of reason? Hopefully you will find some more sometime.
