I've heard of this over the years but never read it. Listened to a podcast this week covering the same topic and it it made thoughtful listening. The bottom line seemed to be that we must each celebrate in our own way, not get caught up in the bigger, better, thing where gift-giving becomes competitive. We've never been like that here, but some years the kids have come home quite wistful because a kid at school received a room full of gifts for Christmas. I know people who spend thousands on gifts, which seems rather dumb to me, as well as missing the whole point of the season.
