What makes you choose a given book?

I tend to go by recommendations, but sometimes will browse by authors I've enjoyed, or just by the title. If it grabs my attention, I'll read a random paragraph and decide from that. I never choose by cover alone, it's impossible to tell what the books like.

I very rarely get them off the shelf. They do have a stand of my favourite type near the counter, so that has happened once.

To me it is kind of stepping stones from one book from another, and I use the internet, forums and publisher and author sites.
