by Jodie Picoult.
She's a natural story-teller, this woman, but I don't always enjoy her books. Dd liked this one so I read it for that reason. Well, skimmed it anyhow.
The story of a school shooting, we are given insights into the lives of various people who are/become involved with the dreadful tragedy.
Ultimately, the author tries to have us understand how the bullied boy came to the point where he'd commit such a crime. As ever in Picoult's books, there's quite a twist at the end.
By the time I'd skipped through it, just enough to get a grasp of the story, I realised that everyone would feel guilty reading this book; working mothers, 'cool' kids, teachers, policemen - everyone, for not being able to prevent such tragedies.
Saddest of all is the reminder that not every child is loved, or even tolerated, for who they are, and that a mother's love alone is not always enough.
