On quilting? I've seen your quilts in the background of some pics I've seen and was wondering if you'd be up to doing a quilting tutorial for us. As you know I am not very good at quilting but am willing and eager to learn. Maybe you could show me how to keep my batting from shifting, cutting my squares straight, and how to stitch them so they look right ;D
So whatda ya say?

Hello ladies, I must apologize for not even realizing that this was posted for me and thanks to Carolyn for giving me "heads up" on this thread! I feel quite humbled that someone would ask me to give tips on quilting...I feel very inadaquate for that job since I view myself as such a new quilter! I've been thinking on this, and I just don't know how to do a tutorial on this hobby. I do love it! I know what I'd do to "show" someone if they were at my house...but to write it is another matter all together. What I want to do is recommend the book that my dear friend who turned me onto quilting gave to me as a guide to use: "Basic Guide to rotary cut Quilts" By Marianne Fonz & Liz Porter, it's published by Leisure Arts. You can find it at Wal-Mart, in the sewing section of the store where they set up little book displays. Or I've seen it at Jo-Ann fabrics, probably almost anywhere. I think it runs around $8.00 or so. But it is the book I've been using to teach myself to do rotary cutting, strip cutting and quilting. It is very simply written, good instructions and good pics to go along with it. I highly recommend it for beginning quilters out there. ~As to keeping the batting from shifting...baste, baste, baste!! I use saftey pins and baste about every handwidth apart. ~for cutting squares accurately...I use a sharp rotary cutting blade and a square quilting ruler...makes it very easy! ~And to stitch them together right..the secret is in the pinning! Remember, You control the material, the material does not control YOU!! Pin all your seams and everywhere, pinning helps greatly to keep the material from shifting. Hope that is a help~
