I would like to make a quilt for my dd for Christmas but I've never made one before so I need a super easy, super quick pattern. I do have sewing skills so I'm not totally in the dark here, lol. I'm thinking maybe just large squares sewn together? I have fabric of two colors that have Maneki Neko cats on it (dd really likes Japanese type stuff). I also have some solid colors I can use with the prints. Any help here would be appreciated Oh, and I would like to do this on the sewing machine, not by hand. Thanks

Dana,
I think the nine patch is the easiest. Good luck and I can't wait to hear what you choose and also see a picture. I am sure your dd will love it.

I like Roman Stripes for fast and easy quilts.

Thanks, ladies I'll search the net for patterns for both of these and see which one I think I can make without flubbing it up. I may send out a loud cry for help some day soon, lol ;D

If you cut out a heap of squares, anywhere from 2" to 4" square, with the fabric you have, then lay then on the floor to work out a pattern, you need only put a border around it to have a lovely quilt. My first was squares, it looked really effective with the way I repeated the fabrics.

All the quilters I know say that a crazy quilt pattern is very easy also. That is where you sew scraps of fabric in different size pieces overlapping each other. You can ask for help anytime Dana and we will sure do the best we can.

I do crazy quilts, like Car said they are so super easy! and you can't mes it up because it's all scraps anyway.
Good luck and please post a pic so we can see.

Dana, a 4 patch, 9 patch or crazy quilt would be the easiest. Let us know how it goes and what you decide on.

Or just another pattern to through in the mix, there is an easy quilt pattern called the rail fence. (or sometimes called woven ribbon) I made my first baby quilt out of that pattern, it was a great one to learn with. But the 4-patch and 9-patch are very good easy patterns too...you've got lots of great advice from these lovely ladies and you can't go wrong, no matter what pattern you chose!! Good Luck Dana!
