This is the first year in the last 17 that I have had a garden, so I don't know the answer to this.
How long does it take for green tomatoes to ripen on the vine?
I have Romas and Husky Reds (which look like the vine tomatoes you can get in the winter in the grocery stores), they have both had green tomatoes on them for about 2-2½ weeks now. When do they start ripening so I can be ready to can them?
TIA

Not sure of the exact time Deed, but we always just check them every day and pick them when they are ready. HTH

Dee, mine is slow at ripening as well. I've heard that my excess rain here is actually hurting the tomatoes rather than helping them. I've gotten a few yellow ones, a few Romas and only one Better boy so far.

Good question Deed. I know that my cherry tomatoes are already ripening. We have gathered a small bowl full of them. But they seem to be ripening slowly also. Let me ask dh about the time frame..

Thanks Pat and Car. So far mine are still green as green can be on the vine, romas and husky reds. I want a fresh tomato sandwich!

Mine are coming in but the taste is just not there. They finally get ripe and then turn to mush within a day or two. Very unpleasant tomatoes this year. I've decided that I'm going to just have to try again next year. I'll put a few of these in the freezer for soups, etc. but they aren't anything to get excited over. Hope yours turn out better Dee.

Hack says the farther north you are the later they turn red. He says your's should start to turn anytime now.
My cherry maters have a crisp luscious taste but there isn't alot of them..
Can't wait to hear about your's Deed.
Sorry bout your maters, Pat. Do you think it was the humid, hot weather and lack of rain?

Thanks Hack! ;D
I figured it had something to do with being up north, LOL I just KNOW everything is going to ripen at the same time and then I will be scrambling to get it all put up. LOL

Did you get to eat lots of tomato sandwiches Deed? We don't seem to have tomato problems here. We stuck a couple of plants in last year and they were nice.
