I have some placemats that are new and I thought about doing them as the placemat purses. However all the instructions call for those ready made fancy looking handles at Joanns, etc. It will be somewhat hard to match a fabric handle to them, but not impossible. However, I'd like to do something more like the fancy store bought handles but cheaper. I know I'm such a cheapskate but I can't help it.
So do you have any idea on what I could use rather than the wood/bamboo/metal handles they sell in the store?

Hmmm this is a hard one, how about a handle off an old basket? You could also use a belt, if you don't have any just hanging around one of our $$ stores sell them. You can also buy that straping type stuff in fabric stores. The type that is used on duffel bags and such. Either use it plain or add some of your furry yarn (glue gun) to the top of the strap for decoration. I'll keep thinking and let you know if my brain comes up with any more ideas... LOL

I'm thinking some white chain cut to handle size, the type that has the small links and you use it to hang flowers and stuff outside with. I just need to stop being a cheapskate and go to Joanns but I have to run out of other ideas first. LOL

They often have 40% off coupons in them, and they're *always* having some sort of sale. You can register for it online, and sometimes you'll get coupons via email too.

I do get those coupons and guess I may have to use them for the handles. Good idea.
