Okay, my container gardening isn't working. The plants are saturated from all this rain and won't dry out. So I am going to transplant them in to the ground. Lots of work, but I hope it will be worth it.
Anyway we have not so nice dirt! I am digging up lots of roots and rocks and finding out about 6" down, it is nasty clay!
So my question is, what do I get to work into the soil to help it stay aerated and for drainage? Peat moss? I don't have a clue, so I need HELP!

Mix perlite into the soil to aerate it. Peat moss will retain the water, so you don't want that. HTH!

I wonder if perlite is like gypsum?
