Ok as you know I am just learning to sew. I am trying to make velvet shoulder wraps for my Mom, sister and Neice. Now my question. How to I finish the sides of the velvet? Oh and I will also be adding a beaded fringe. Can you help or did I confuse you?

What I would do is sew the fringe on (right side to right side of the velvet) then turn it under however deep the 'flat' part is of the fringe, so that just the beads hang down from the edge. Did that make sense?

Oh and when sewing it on I would use a short zig zag stitch, which will help keep the raw edge of the velvet from fraying.

Sounds good, I forgot to add that they will be lined, so tell me if I have this right. Lay both pieces of fabric right sides together, with the beading "sandwiched" in between, baste around and then short zig zags on the machine right ? gosh now I have confused myself again LOL

Would love to see a pic when you get one done.

I've been way to "stressed out" to try to cut them out yet. But as soon as I do I promise to post a pic.
