I love Peter Pan collars, I had one on my school uniform when I was 11 and for a few years. I have come across plain dress things on the net, so will keep an eye out. I saw a vintage pattern with the collar a couple of days ago, the lady who made it modelled it. pleasantviewschoolhouse.blogspot.com/2008/03/vintage-ladies-smock-advance-6464.htmlAbout four years ago, my Mum made a dress for my daughter to dress up as Raggedy Ann. She made it so she could use it later for a good dress. The ballet teacher made the apron to go over it. Mum used a modern pattern but I am not sure how much she had to change on it. It didn't have long sleeves though. Your pattern is good as you can choose how you want to do the sleeves, with elastic or with cuffs and it has darts? which looks better I think. Could you use the other pattern to make what we call a nighty?

for the macalls pattern: I didn't use the darts, I did use the back panels, I am making short sleeves with just a hem at the bottom, no collar, but I might make the next one with a collar, or maybe add a lace collar to this one...not sure yet...I also pleated the skirt. I also attached a "cape" like the mennonite dresses to see if I could do it....was pretty simple and looks nice. I am going to sew on the sleeves today and then pray before I make the button holes!! The bad thing is that the patterns aren't sized like I buy in the store, so this pattern need me to sew a 12, which fits nice, but a 14 will fit just a tad looser. If I wore a 14 from the clothing rack, I would swim in it....so am I an 8 or a 12-14??? Now I need to make the adjustments on the pattern so the next time it will be easier...and a bit quicker. It wasn't hard to put togther, just a bit time consuming because I kept making adjustments.

after re-reading a few websites, I am guessing that what I sewed onto the dress is called a "modesty panal"...a cape would cover the shoulders. I definetly will be making another, but will go with the size 14 for a bit more wiggle room!
