This recipe has been in my family for years and came from my grandma (dad's mom). May be even older, I really don't know. LOL I do know that dad ate these on 'bread and butter' as a kid, hence the name. ;D
Bread and Butter Pickles
25 medium cukes 10 onions 1/2 cup canning salt 2 cups cider vinegar 1 cup water 2 cups sugar 2 tsp. mustard seed 2 tsp. cellery seed 1/2 tsp. tumeric
Slice cukes and onions, arrange in layers, salting each layer. Let stand several hours or overnight. Drain. Mix vinegar, sugar, water and spices. Bring to a boil, add cukes and onion. Cook 5 minutes. Pack in sterilized jars. Process.
Yeild 14-16 pints
Half this recipe is easier to work with at a time.
