Anyone finding any deals lately...thrift shopping, yard sales, even dumpster diving. I can't tell you the good deals Lori has found at the thrift shops. She has a knack for that.
I dont' do much of that anymore but I use to go every Thursday when I lived in Michigan, to yard sales. My girlfriend Karen and I would load up her kids and my private charges, and we would mark the news paper listing, and gather our map, snacks and drinks and off we would go.
My best find was an old student school house desk..It was in pieces and at the curb of a home to be thrown away..I rescued it, gave the man a buck for it and dh fixed it up. I now use it as an end table. I will take a picture so you all can see it.

This is my weekend passion. Every Saturday and some fridays if I can get by with it my little PT cruiser finds it's way out the garage door. I have found so many great things over the years. My home is 90% garage sale/flea market/auction finds. I like garage sale prices best of all !!! My fix comes in 4 more days !!!

It is starting to get too hot for garage sales here in Tx- they pick up again in the fall, But i went to a thrift store yesterday and got two cute fitted sheets for the kids beds and three really cute pillow cases to go in gabby's room and also a plain denim pillow sham all in great shape and all for 4.99!

I also went garage sales this weekend! I love doing that................well, we ended up getting a really nice tv in a cabinet with doors under it for the VCR or DVD and tape storage. It also swivals on ist's base................perfect for downstairs in the family room in hot weather. It was only $45.00 and the brand new VCR was $20.00 We got a DVD but realized that we have so many VCR's we are going to use them and so that is fine with us. I also got a really nice shower curtain and ring set for the trailer! We leave for our week at the coast this Thursday so that is perfect timing. It was only a couple of bucks. There were other sales I wanted to go to with my friend who up visiting but.............part way though the list my front drivers side brakes or something started smoking! I just had new brakes, pads and rotars, put on last week!! Well, there were closed on Sat. so it goes back tomorrow and I better not have to pay any more on it! So..............it all came to an abrupt end!  It was fun while it lasted. I ran into an old friend at one and she was cleaning out her grandmothers house who just passed away and she was 98 yrs. old. Well, she told me she was just hitting the top of the iceberg and so she will call me when she digs into all the good stuff...........all her childhood toys, handmade quilts, etc.! Yahoo.............The Mother Lode! I can't wait for her to call. It is going to be so much fun. I love antiques so that will be a ball. Even when it gets really hot here the yard sales just keep on coming and I love the thrill of the hunt. Phyllis |

I haven't read all the replies yet.
Today I went to the op-shop as we call it, to find something to wear in the snow for Snow Day on Friday.
No snow things whatsoever. Need suggestions for that.
However, I did come home with some 1960s canisters like the ones my Mum used to have in her kitchen, they match our kitchen so that is good. $2.
My daughter got a Tweenies book for 10c. It was in great condition and she loves it.
