I am hoping to have a yard sale in the next 6-8 weeks, have to wait for better weather up here in the north. LOL
Anyway I don't go to yard sales much and don't have a clue what to charge for things. I have searched on the net and while I am finding good general tips on how to set up and advertise, I can't find anything on how much to charge for things.
I have lots of clothing, mainly shirts, sweaters, jeans, purses, shoes and coats. I also plan on paring down my tin collection and tin advertising signs. We also have 2 exercise thingys, not sure what they are called yet until I dig them out and get the name and model off them. I will probably get rid of a couple of sewing machines and also a big knitting machine. Might even throw in Jack's old car that needs work if his friend doesn't get here soon and pick the dang thing up!
So all you gals that go to yard sales, can you help me out with pricing please?
TIA

All I can think of is to use the function on ebay to see how much things have sold for.

I think you will get very little for clothing as people are literally looking to spend $.50-2.00 per item. This may not be true for more popular brand names or designer names, but that's what I've seen around here for the other stuff. Regarding your tin/advertising sign collection...could you lmk what you'd like to get rid of? My dad collects some things like that, and I may be interested in buying some from you. Maybe you could visit some yard sales in your area before you hold one? Checking on Ebay is a good idea too, and if something is doing well on Ebay, I'd be happy to help you list your same item there. I think people pay more for things on Ebay than they would at a yard sale. HTH some

I always price my things a few dollars above what I am willing to take. Most people want to haggle. I agree about the clothes - I generally put things on a table and just put one sign $1 each or whatever. If I have some really nice sets, I hang them with individual prices on them.
Yarn I would sell for $1 a skein and probably go down to .50 per if someone wanted to buy several. Partial skeins I would put in a freezer bag and mark at $2 or so. As for the sewing machines and knitting machine I would check ebay - or go with 50% of what you paid for it. No clue on the exercise things - I always see those at yard sales and the ones I have tried to sell I end up taking to Habitat. You might do better to just freecycle those.
Good Luck!

All great advice Deed. We would love to see your stash, and other things. List away. You already have your board set up...in the subforums..
