As you can see this plant stand is quite rusty and the paint is peeling...would you leave it as is (it is very charming) or paint it???..it will be sitting on or near the teddy bear shop...tia

That is a great find Jayne. I have an old plough seat chair that is white and needs painting too, we haven't painted it yet. Not sure.

If you think it was painted with lead paint from the 1970s or before, maybe with grandchildren it may be better to paint it.

It would probably have lead based paint on it, given its age. I would use paint stripper to remove as much paint as possible, second choice would be scraping, while wearing a dust mask. You don't want any dust near you. Once it's stripped you can use steel wool or sandpaper to get as much rust off as possible, then paint. I've successfully used oil based paint on two metal things, both spray paint and with a brush, but maybe a special paint for metal would be better?

Thanks for the input!!!!...I will be stripping and painting it....I may try to give it an "aged "look after I am done....
