How do you think we, as Americans and our sister countries...rank in the recent attempt to help hurricane victims.
I think the states affected were pretty slow on the draw, to make help happen more quickly. I don't think the governor of Louisiana or the mayor of New Orleans had a clue what to do.
But I am very proud of the way we have all rallied together to help the victims. Everywhere I go I see signs for raising money or talk to people who have gone to help. Churches, hospitals, businesses, and just plain ole' folk.
To foreign countries, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
I know that Heather's church raised money to send. Heather lives in Canada.
What is your take on the situation?

Honestly, If I had been a part of the initial response, one of those guys in a helicopter trying to drop food and water to an angry, ungreatful crowd that was shooting at me, I'd say to heck with them.
I don't think there was anything wrong with the national response time. The issue has certaily shed some light on the character of our president, though.
Having been homeless myself, please keep that in mind, what I see is a bunch of life-long welfare recipients demanding a hand out. The people who are willing and able to work have found homes and are finding jobs and are finding very supportive communities. (We have 5 families of Katrina survivors in our community. They have been provided with furnished homes, food, clothing and jobs and the city of Omaha has provided 150 homes rent free for 18 months) We have community services that are coordinating this relief and I donate from my stockpile regularly. My tax dollars have been contributing to the support of the rest of them for years and that is all they are going to get from me.
I think the mayor of N.O. and the governor of LA have made and continue to make very poor choices.
I guess that's all I have to say. I did give a stove and refrigerator to one of the displaced families. I have some winter clothes for their 9 year old that I still have to dig out and some personal care items to drop off.

I heard we wanted to go in but had to wait for permisson. We helped alot in the earlier flood in Asia. I haven't been keeping up with it though. Floods were a constant in my childhood. I didn't want to see pictures of children hungry and I don't watch the news much atm.
