Our floral emblem in Victoria Australia is the Pink Heath. I was lucky enough to see them around the Kinglake area when we lived there in 2003, it was exciting. www.anbg.gov.au/emblems/vic.emblem.html

Cara I can't beleive your state tree is the tulip tree. When we lived in the area I mentioned, in 2003 at the farmhouse, we had at least two of these and I loved them. One was large and the kids had a swing on it like the kids who lived there before us. I waited and waited for the flowers, I didn't know much about the tree then only what Mum said. I was so worried the parrots had eaten the buds.
Then I was rewarded by flowers. I have also seen the varigated ones. If I have a house with an orange theme maybe a 1970s house I would have them again.
We had a cumquat near the large tree and I enjoyed going out there with the children. We could also see them out the windows.
