This is a follow on from cupcake's post on the daily thread.
On Thursday we had lunch at the park at our hometown. We haven't lived there for 4 years.
The park has a man made creek and we sat on the other side of it where they have alot of shade on the side of a hill. Our daughter 9 used to be taken to this park every week when she was little, and feeding the ducks was part of our life.
How amazing that our little girl 5 knew nothing about feeding ducks.
When I was little Mum had ducks and we used the unused part of a high tin loaf to feed them sometimes.
The ducks at the park were native black ducks and wood ducks that are actually geese.

It's really a peaceful feeling isn't it? My children love to feed them. I see many grandparents bringing their grandchildren here to feed the ducks. We save old stale breads, biscuits, crackers, croissants, whatever and feed them. The ones here are mallards and there is this oddball one with a white head and a red something on it and a brownish body. I will have to try and find a pic on the net to describe. There used to be one solitary white duck. And the swans. All along the seine there are various ducks, geese and swans, there was a really dark brown or black swan out here one day.

We sometimes have ducks (mallards) in the stream by our house, just 5 steps from the edge of our house! They are more likely to be in the larger stream across the road though - about 20m away. I have photos of me - when I was just old enough to walk - at our local nature reserve feeding the ducks. After spending 7 1/2 years overseas I really wanted to visit my "memories" and was glad to see the ducks (descendants of original ducks!) and pond are still there (30 years later!) as well as a nice bush walk up to a waterfall.

There used to be a white duck with red on it at the park I mentioned.
Most of the swans I see are black. All probably.
