Finally I am starting the part-time job working in a local gift shop. I do alot of my gift buying at this shop and know the owners and employees quite well. Once when I was shopping the owner was setting up displays. She was having trouble getting it just right and I helped her with it. I guess she remembered that and phoned me back in April to ask if I was interested in a job working there, the opening was coming up in the Fall when one of the girls was leaving to go to Michigan to Law School. WOW. Of course I said yes. I really wasn't looking for a job, but was flattered that she thought of me.
Anyway, I work M, TH, F, from 10-1 for now. Hope with my lupus I can do this job.
Please wish me luck.
See you all after while.
Have a good day.

Thanks for asking Beth. It was so much fun. Lots to remember though as they are training me for the entire store and then just turning me loose to do what I enjoy the most *create*. I set up two displays yesterday. I did a Burt's Bees display, and then a display for a new line of purses they are carrying. It was fun and I didn't hesitate or blink to think of ideas..I looked around the store and saw alot of things that I think need to update, change and can be made more attractive.
It is a small higher end gift shop and is locally owned. I have known one of the owners since the first time I shopped in the store. It is my fave place to buy gifts.
They have MaggieB purses, Burt's Bees, Willow Tree Figurines, tons of country and primitive things. And other brand name items. Just a cute place to be. I will let you all know what I do on Thursday.
I have to learn the workings of the store to fill in for cashiers and to help during the Holiday Rush.

Carolyn - the new job is even closer to what Natalie (stepdaughter) is doing than I realized! She also works in a gift-type home-deco type shop, was working as a cashier but is beginning next week doing the sort of thing you're doing. I have to admit, when she told me that she was applying for the vacancy, I was a bit wishy, wishing I could apply for it instead!
Where I work is okay - the work is okay, management sucks - but I'm away from home 100 hours a fortnight (get paid 60 hours plus 5 sleepovers for which I am paid almost nothing) but with university it's hard to find something accomodating.
Best of luck with the job; it does sound 'fun'.
