Help! Has anyone here ever cleaned houses, I mean, other than your own?
I am asking because 2 ladies who cannot clean their own homes, have asked if I would be interested in cleaning. I am interested, but where do I start? Do I ask them to make a list of what they would like done, so I don't "over or under clean?" And how much would I charge? Hourly? I am just lost......I would appreciate any and all advice.....
My dh doesn't really want me to do this....but I am thinking, hey, with all these medical bills I am racking up, every little bit will help. And besides that, I left the career thing when my kids were born....this way I could set my own hours pretty much, wouldn't have to buy $$ clothes or put up with snooty co-workers...
Whadda' ya' think? Anyone??

At least 15 years ago, I used to clean apartments for elderly folks in the low rent housing. I would clean their bathroom and kitchen, vacuum and pick up whatever I needed to to accomplish those tasks for $20. I imagine it'd probably be about $25 by now.
I say sit down with them and ask what they'd need done and ask how much they could pay.

I have never done this myself. I would just sit down and ask them to be specific about what they want done. Is it just a general weekly clean, is it a weekly clean with an occasional deeep clean? Do they include doing their laundry? (a friend of miine's grandma cleaned houses and she would wash sheets.) Anyway, let us know how it goes.

My MIL does this (and I've helped out occasionally when she's in the hospital or whatever)
You need to make a price chart for various chores. . . will you be expected to provide your own supplies or use their's? Charge more if using your own. . . .
Are these people you know well? Otherwise think about what happens if you are accused of theft, abuse, etc. . . .
My MIL gives senior citizens and the disabled a discount. . . . she also has some houses that she charges by the hour, some by the job, some just a set amount for the house. It depends--
Are there pets indoors? She charges more for that. . .. .
I had a housekeeper at one time-- she came weekly and did the deep dusting, mopped the floors, cleaned the shower/toliet/sink in the bathroom, and dusted the living room /bedrooms. I paid her by the hour, as she was trustworthy and worked the entire time she was at my house. After a few weeks she and I figured out the average time it took her to do the chores we'd agreed on. . . and we just paid her a set amount after that.

I cannot help you out as far as what to charge but I would say if your DH does not want you to do it then IMHO you should not.
