Perhaps this should go in a cooking section but certainly not in Scrimp to Save!!
I've read about a nearby butcher whose meat is said to be wonderful. All their products are organic and bio-dynamic. My neighbour buys some of their goods on a regular basis and highly recommends them. Well, last weekend dh and I happened to be in the vicinity of the shop and decided on a whim to go inside.
The place is spotless, the meat does look very healthy and fresh, but there are no prices displayed. I threw caution to the wind and bought 2 big, plump, rump steaks and 3 scotch fillet steaks. They looked wonderful, but I nearly fainted when the total came to just over $50!
The next day I cooked our meaty bounty on the barbecue, an old charcoal-burning type. I was VERY careful setting the barbecue up as befitting the goods that were about to be cooked.
The steaks were delicious. They did taste better than other meat we've had, although I didn't think there would be as much difference as there was. Even the fussy son ate a whole steak - unprecedented for him.
I wonder what other true confessions are out there?

I probably have mentioned this one before, quince paste at $6 per jar. We all love it, and ate it last night.
I think meat would taste as meat should in that circumstance. I remember when I was first married wondering what the water was in the pan when we were frying mince, or hamburger.

Wow, I probably would have fainted. Once when we first moved here. There was a man in a truck trying to sell apples. No price was mentioned. I picked 16 apples of various varieties and the bill total 90 euros. I about fainted. I said no way. I can buy a bag with probably 20 lesser quality apples at aldi for less than 3 euros. That guy was really angry I wasted his time but he never has come back knocking on our door. I don't know who can afford them but he apparantly does business here. MY splurge, every once in a very great while I will plunk down 2,49 euros on a chocolate bar.
