We have been working out how to go onto broadband with either tmg or telstra. Our dial up here is 46.6Kbps mostly. Mostly though it is to keep the phone line free.
Usually people say that with the saving from no local calls to connect that makes up the difference in price. My problem is that my local calls and STD (long distance) are capped at $90. I think my four potential phone calls to Mum and calls to my son during the day could add up to over that based on the one time the cap was off for a few weeks by accident quite awhile ago. Is there another good plan. I guess I just need to go on the Telstra website to check it out.

Phone plans are hideous to work out. They are so complicated and it's ridiculously time-consuming to actually compare one plan to another.
We have our home phone with Telstra on a plan that gives us free local calls, and capped STD (interstate) calls. It has worked up until this year, but may need to be reviewed. Our internet is ADSL with Internode.
My sister in law and her partner have their internet through tpg. They have now changed to voip with them too. Now every time they call us the line drops out at least once during the call. I'm not terribly impressed with the sound quality either.
Although phonechoice.com.au offer a comparison service, I have found that it never mirrors our needs.
I wish you luck with your phone plan investigations, Br, and hope that I don't have to do that again for a very, very long time!!

I think homeline advanced will do what I want, hopefully. It is $40 and the only thing I have to watch is the 20min mobile calls.

Timers are a good thing for phone calls, I reckon. I get the kids to set a timer or watch the clock, and to hang up at 19 minutes.
