What do you cook for it?
Mostly we do one if the kids ask for it, I am usually not prepared. They sell BBQ packs at the supermarket, but mostly for kids we have sausages, which may be sausage links there, on sandwich bread, usually white with ketchup or sauce.

For the bbq, I like chicken satay things, or kebabs or whatever on earth people call them - wooden skewers threaded with chunks of marinated chicken, onion, capsicum, etc.
As for the original question, I like to entertain best when we're taking people out for dinner and dh's work are paying!! At least then I know that our guests are enjoying their meal lol.
The at-home entertaining I enjoy most is morning or afternoon tea. I'd prefer to cook a few different bits and pieces so that people have a choice.

ribs with a special marinade sauce my dh makes...yum chicken steak shrimp kebobs pork chops boston butt fish
as far as sides, we keep it simple. A variety of salads, like potato, layer, cornbread, etc. Usually baked beans and french bread. Desserts are simple too.....banana pudding, strawberry trifle or peach cobbler, sometimes homemade ice cream.

A big BBQ potluck where you provide most of the meat and desserts guests can bring any if they desire and each person brings a special sidedish to share. Need to have a playground nearby. What fun to blow off fireworks after an afternoon of bbqing...brings back lots of memories.
