There seems to be a trend back to stockpiling food for later use.
What types of food do you stockpile for winter?
hot cocoa and marshmallows of course :-) teas coffee spiced cider to serve hot
Soup fixings stew fixings
When you think of winter, what foods do you want lots of in your home?

I started to stock up a few items, mainly for my boys' school lunches. I have bought enough juice and granola bars to last me until Christmas. It was a really good deal, so I bought alot. I like to stock up on: Lipton soup for those days when I am tired or we are sick. I bought some marshmellows too, for hot cocoa! Also have~ canned tomatoes chick peas kethcup canned cream corn canned peas lots of different pasta flour sugar *Life* cereal I bought for very cheap I won't name everything, but I am trying to stock up to have a various pantry so we won't need to go out to buy a missing ingredient when I cook. Winters are cold and with lots of snow here in Quebec, so if we can save a trip out and not have scrape and defrost the car and all, it's good for us!

Do you still have to do that if you have a carport or garage? Sorry I know nothing about snow, well having a car in it anyway.

No scraping if you have a garage. . . I've never had a garage in my entire life!
My stockpiles for winter include lots of various flours and grains for baking. . I do way more baking in the winter.
Root vegetables for soups and stews
Powdered milk-- we don't use it much as a rule, but sure nice to know I have it on hand in case of blizzards/ice storms and we can't get to the store.

We have had a carport for the 3 years at our newer home in our hometown and two years here. I think it would have saved the paint on our car a little bit. We tend to keep the cars forever. Our hometown had heaps of frosts and very hot summers which is hard on the back seat of cars.
How many weeks in advance are you meaning in stockpile Car?

BR, some folks have huge stockpiles that can take them months and months. They buy things on sale and stock up.
Me, I just like to have some extra things in case of bad weather during the winter.

We like to have the things to cook for 2 weeks, and always have the sauces and flours etc. to make a recipe. So each fortnight we are buying things that have run out, and the meat and vegetables to make things on the menu. Although these days it depends alot of what meat is available as to what we cook.
We try to get milk for two weeks as well. Today dh brought home two boxes of UHT, about 20 litres I think.
