Today we brought home the cupboard that has been on layby for awhile. DH and ds picked it up and brought it home on the trailer.
It is something I remember seeing in the house of my Mum's best friend. Not sure how alike they are. What I love is the little cupboards lined with tin, they used theirs for storing bread. We used to get our bread fresh from the bakery, they were the only family I knew with factory bread with wrappers. The label had something about milk on it. Wish I could remember the name.
This cupboard replaces a 60s one. I have another thread about it somewhere. This one has no shelf for junk!
It is painted a cream and has lovely oldfashioned perhaps kauri wood inside. It would have been an absolute treasure in new condition. The catches are painted purple, but it matches the squares in my curtains so I don't mind.
At the bottom are two squares of wire mesh for air.
The glass you can't see through, which suits me as well. It is narrower than the old dresser/cupboard which is great too. I am going to keep bread tins and meat presses and all those goodies in the bottom. I hope to keep the bread in the metal lined hutches, but will see how it goes with the kids, the bread doesn't have a home atm.

How exciting to have it home, Br. The cupboard sounds lovely. Maybe we can see a picture of it? (I need a hopeful smiley here lol)

Our new home only has one wall large enough for this cupboard, we bought it to fill the space in the photo to make it neat. I read somewhere those style are now suitable for any room in the home, I may be able to find that story.
Where is this large wall, in the lounge room, the thoroughfare end. There is another large wall in that room, but that is for the couch etc. near the fire and the T.V. Trouble is I would have preferred that spot for the piano. Most spots for furniture are not very tall, there are a lot of windows in our home.
The room it is to go into is orange. I love the paint color. We found it in a color chart, the previous owners painted it there. Looking at the chart I wouldn't have chosen it. The light in that room really suits it and it makes me happy. Will tell you the name as well. Creams really go well with it.
The purple handles, very quirky, but I like them. The new house has a cupboard similarly decked out. You would think the cupboard came out of the same house, and you never know I guess. There is even a feature wall of purple in the lounge.
The wall colour is Taubmans Daiquiri Ice.
