They spoke with the oncologist today. He says chemo/radiation is futile at this point. So, plans are for hospice placement early in the week if they have a bed. He says to expect only days , not weeks or months. There is a family meeting tomorrow afternoon to bring everyone up to speed, and make sure ALL are in agreement. Apparently SIL does not have POA as we first thought. She just kind of acted like it, since she's the oldest. Doug made me promise not to tell him if anyone died while he's in bootcamp. He can't do anything about it, and doesn't want to prolong his bootcamp by coming home for a couple days of the funeral. He'd have to go back to a different plattoon, make new friends, get used to new drill instructors, etc. I can understand all that. . . Now tell me, how do I write him a letter every day, and NOT tell him ?

Oh Denise, I'm so very sorry to hear this. I know most hospice units are very nice and they can make him comfortable. My thoughts are with you all. {{{hugs}}}
As for Doug, I know it will be hard to keep it from him. But you're right, besides all the changes, bootcamp lasting longer, he needs to keep his mind on what he is doing. Also maybe it's best he remembers his grandpa as he saw him at his party. Hugs Denise, you'll do the right thing, you know your children best. {{{Denise}}}
