Alrighty I have had pets now for over 15 years and never had a flea problem, but now I do. I am treating everyone with Frontline today but I have to do my carpets too. I read on the net that I can use a bleach solution to kill them but it didn't give a ratio to use and I can't find one. Anyone know how much I should use? My carpet cleaner holds about a gallon of water at a time. And yes, bedding is in the washer now, hot water and bleach! Please someone help me! I don't want it so strong it hurts my kids, but it has to be strong enough to get those little so and so's out of this house!

Are you sure you want to put bleach on your carpets? I always sprinkled with Sevins dust before I went to then vacuumed it up the next morning. You can "bomb" for fleas too.

Yep Karen, these carpets are old and you can't hurt them anymore. LOL
Just for future reference, what is Sevins dust?
I thought about bombing but we all have to leave the house for over 4 hours minimum, what am I going to do with 13 cats for that length of time? My cats are strictly indoor cats.
Car found a ratio for me and another tip of putting 1 teaspoon of vinegar per quart in their drinking water to keep them away! I'm gonna try that today.

Dee, sevin dust is a powdered poision they use on plants. My ex's grandmother died after she had used it from inhaling it, as she sprinkled it on her plants!
I am very leary about using anything like that around my animals, more especially if they are indoors!
I have heard that you can place a cup of bleach in a glass pie plate, set it in the middle of the room and the fleas will jump into it and die. Not sure how it works but some people around here swear by it.
