Yep, it is a plant I grew up with. www.rubythroat.org/RoseOfSharonMain.htmlThey are not like the normal hybiscus if I have the right plant, that pic is a little vague maybe I could find another one. We had them in our hometown in our last house two years ago. Love them!!! One neighbour had heaps. They flower in Feb. here when there is nothing much else I think. In the hottest month.

I think actually our neighbour had them and possibly our near neighbour as well, then a seedling came up in our yard and we planted it.

They are completely surrounding 2 sides of our property. They are in bloom now but what I don't like is that they drop seed which grows so fast and theres so many small starts to pull out of the ground. They are beautiful though.

They must look stunning when they're in bloom, cupcake. Pity about the seedlings, though, but still it would be worth it.
