We're leaving in a couple of weeks. Has anyone been? It's a little intimidating to this back woods girl. Any hints, tips, tricks?

Oh Karen, sounds devine. I have always dreamed of going a couple places and NYC is one of them. I know that Deed went years ago. I am sure someone here has been so I bet they will be able to help you out.
I hope you have a wonderful time. Please give us the scoop when you get back. Happy Trip!

I've been Karen, but not to see the sights. Just a hospital and a hotel. I would look on the net and see what shows are playing on Broadway. If you can go to a nice place to eat, lunch is MUCH cheaper. My mom and aunt always ate at Tavern on the Green. If you want to shop, the garment district is a good place, but I don' t know anything other than that. I would go with someone or in a group. We saw lots of crazy things happening out our window at the hotel and that was in a nice part of Manhattan. So just be careful and have a wonderful time!

My mother wanted her ashes scattered at Ellis Island. She emigrated to the US through there. She was a party girl though, and would want us to enjoy ourselves.

We're postponing the trip until October for financial reasons. Maybe things will be a little less expensive then, and I know the wether will be cooler!

My husband has been to NYC and he went in early October I think. There were hot days. It is hard to beleive it snows there.
You could go to Central Park. DH rode the subway. He didn't find it scarey, he came in on the train from upstate a little way. I would advise bandaids in case you get blisters if you have to walk around Central Park.
I have seen heaps of flowers in the movies, you won't be there in spring though.

My husband says this place marriott.com/property/propertypage/POUCHis really good. It is not scary at all and takes about an hour to Grand Central by Amtrack. You can get on it at Peekskill and it is a nice station as well. Poughkeepsie itself is just a normal town I have the photos to prove it! There is also an airport nearby Stewart Newburgh. All low key. I also have a list of things my friends son went to see in NYC. United Nations Headquarters Building, Intrepid Sea-air-space museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral, Lincoln Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, & Empire State Building.

I don't know what's going on for sure. Kim, my sister keeps postponing it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for the advice, BR!
