My dh is bringing up TN as a state he might be willing to think about relocating us to. However I know very very little about TN. Anyone here from TN? Is it family friendly? LOL..I guess anything is more family friendly than southern California..lol. How do TN react to people from CA moving there?? Is it a problem? He has also brought up NC and Texas. Who knows what will actually happen. I just thought I should do some research so we can make informed decisions. We are open to whatever the Lord plans for us. Thank you.

Brandi~
I haven't ever lived in Tennessee but I spent 4 years visiting my son in college there. I love it. I found the people very friendly and genuinely so. My son really enjoyed his 4 years of living there. I have family the relocated to Tennessee from Michigan when they opened the Saturn plant there. They felt welcomed as well.
Melody lives in Tennessee, and since she is military I am sure she has a better take on this than I do.
Tami Pope is from Texas, relocated from Michigan. I will let her tell you about Texas. Personally, I could never live there, and I didn't find the people especially friendly either. But was only there a week.
And Ellise lives in North Carolina and is also transplated from another state.
And hey, if Kentucky is ever an option, I would love to have you all near me..:-)

Brandi~ Which part of Tenn? I've been there a few times, just to visit and we spend spring break there each year.
Let's see NC Where? NC is a very beautiful place to live. I lived there off and on for 16 years. I lived in Centeral NC, The Coast and the Mountain areas of NC, Lots of activities to do with the kids, and family.
I live in SC the Upstate area, close to the NC & Tenn boarder. I am from Houston, Texas, and given a choice I wouldn't ever move back to Houston, too crowded, not enough family things to do and too flat! LOL.
Let me know the areas you are looking at and I can send you tons of info on them. We are in the process of relocating my Mother & sister & her family up here either NC or SC from Houston, Tx.
Jobs in NC & SC are pretty easy to come by depending on what type of work you are looking for.
Lemme know if I can help. ;D

Hi. Well we live at the TN/KY border. I find the people pretty friendly. THere are things for families to do. There are lots of churches where we are and that helps the atmosphere I think. On the down side, we pay 9.5% tax on everything. That includes food.

But you don't pay state taxes at tax time do you?

Well, I've only been a visitor to TN, but have always found it very beautiful. It is one of the places I feel I could live if I had to move again. We relocated from MI to TX 7 years ago. It was the hardest thing I have ever done- my family never really moved growing up:) The weather was WAY different and lots of other things too, But, now that we are settled and have a church home and good friends I can say I'm happy here. I do dream of having a Michigan summer home some day!

I've lived in So Cal (3 years in Long Beach), and been a transplatnt to TN (2 months). You are going to run in to some cultual differences, BIG TIME! While people in TN see themselves a friendly, I think people are pretty much the same all over. IMO accomodating is the descriptive word for folks in the Bible belt. Things move at a much slower pace, it's wonderful. They take time to smell the roses. Now, if you have allergies or asthma, or your children do, I would really reccomend NOT moving to TN.
I spent a year in TX too. Coming from CA it would be less of a culture shock and you wouldn't have the allergy thing to worry about.

They get frost and ice, so I guess it isn't always green. They don't get the snow like we do up here, or where Deed is, or where Lucie is.
