My dh and I are planning on taking a road trip this summer to North/South Dakota, Montana, and possibly Wyoming depending on how much time off we get. We are in Minnesota, in case you were wondering. What are some not to miss spots to see? We know all of the main, large, attractions, but are also looking for some ones off the beaten path so to speak. Any advice? Amber

No advice, as I've never been to any of those states-- however, I know if I was going- I'd be taking a load of items to Pine Ridge reservation.

Hi Amber, How far into Montana were you planning on going? We go over to Montana about 4 times a year since my parents have a home on one of the lakes. Of course there is Glacier National Park and it is magnificent but we also love to explore some of the smaller towns. One of our favorites is the little town of Big Fork, right at the mouth of the Swan River where it enters into Flathead lake. Big Fork has some great galleries, fun stores, a playhouse where they put on great off broadway shows, scrumptious restaurants and some good hiking right in the area. You can also take a charter boat out to Wild Horse Island or take a charter fishing trip. I think it's the last week in May that they have the Wild Mile kayak race on the Swan River. They have class 4 rapids there and the race is great fun to watch!

If it was me I would go to De Smet to see anything related to Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote Little House On The Prairie.
