employment?
My dh is retired, licensed journey machine repairmen for General Motors.
Since he can't set still more than 5 seconds and has to be out with people to yak too, he started back to work after five years retired and is now Assistant Manager of a Dollar General Store.

My dh got a scholarship to be a teacher. First he had to train as an Electrical Engineer and work for 2 years doing that, then teaching school and on to teaching. He was at his first school for probably 16 years, I actually went there as a teen, yes, he taught me for 6 weeks.
Then the government in our state wanted to sack teachers. DH was 40 and he took a payout because we didn't think we could afford to travel if he was sent to work at another school, and it would also mean I would have to look after my teenage step-son for hours by myself. He was 16 at the time.
He was not working for about a year but that was OK, we were doing OK, then he trained as a Financial Planner, or started it but was not suited. It was a good introduction to the corporate world. Then he worked at IBM on the floor and was given a job in the office after 7 months as a Systems Administrator. This took him to the US in 1997. The company was restructured and sold, he got another try at Engineering and starting up a new business which took him to Canana and America twice more, then he wasn't needed.
He then worked mixing dyes in another factory, they did stuff for the Army. Then decided to go back to teaching which some people said couldn't be done. We moved for that, he had a years contract, then after that finished he got permanent where we are now, and have been here for 2 years.

I can't believe your dh was your teacher, albeit briefly, Br! What a hoot! That must give the kids a giggle!
Well your dh's have had more variety than mine. He started at a large bank (it's different to the States, here each bank has one head office and then hundreds of their own branches all over Australia) working as a teller, and now, over 30 years later, is a head office exec involved with trade finance. If I could remember his title, I'd tell you, lol. Anyway, he's not up there at the top of the tree, but has done very well and I'm grateful that he's always had a good, steady income.
He would like to retire very soon but he's only 53 (I'm 47, not ready to have a retired husband!) so maybe in a couple of years he can look at doing something like your dh, Cara, so he doesn't drive both of us crazy!

dd8 thought I must have had a crush on him then. I did notice him coming to school with his blond hair, motorbike boots, mean look, and red helmet in his hand.

MV starting off as a teller is an amazing achievement. Has he always been in the city?

Business manager of some area farms, as well as hardware/furniture business. He is a workaholic...even started his own business for his "spare" time.
BR, your post above gave me quite a chuckle. Mean look! LOL too funny

Our school was very large for those times. He didn't look like you could mess with him with the bike boots and airforce jacket. Still cute though, really nice hair.
My dh is the same age as MVs and he doesn't want to retire yet, although last year was a challenge at work for him.

Jack is now retired, but he was a maintenance man (jack of all trades) at the city's sewage treatment plant for 38 years. Good pay(not great but good), great benefits.
