The orthopedic doc gave me a "prednisone pack" yesterday to take for my hip pain. I got it filled and then read all the scary info on the sheet that comes with it. Now I don't know whether to take the med or just tough out the pain. The pills are 5 mg each and I take 6 the first day (spread out) and dwindle down to 2 the last few days. I take it for a total of 12 days. So I need your thoughts on this. Anyone ever taken it this way before? Am I worrying over nothing? The dose seems low and the only chronic medical problem I have is the low thryoid.

Oh Pat-- steroids are scary when you take them long term, but a short course should be fine. You'll be amazed at the relief you'll get. . . . . Please follow the doctor's orders

Thank you Denise. I trust your opinion. I just don't trust the youngsters working at the pharmacy nor those printed out sheets that come with everyone's meds.

Pat~
Take it from a long term steroid user, take that dose pack. As Denise said short term won't hurt you at all. It is the long term use and high mgs useage that you must worry about. You will notice such an improvement in your hip you will be amazed. I took several dose packs when I was doctoring my back before surgery. Couldn't of made it without them.
Now, the long term use is a big whole different and scary story.
Please Take Your's..can't wait to hear how much better you feel

How are the meds working? Any relief yet from the pain?

Doing okay. My hip is feeling better and I can't tell any side effects from the meds other than some insomnia (which may have nothing to do with the prednisone). Made it through the water park with Ryan and little McKenzie all day Saturday and was still able to get up and go to Church on Sunday. Thanks for all the thumbs up.

You can take it in the morning with breakfast, then again at lunch to help with the sleeplessness. The food will help to avoid stomach upset. Try not to take any after 4pm and you should sleep better. Also be sure to wash it down good and call the Dr office if your tongue starts getting sore. Thrush is a very common side effect, usually from having some residue left in your mouth.

I hate the way it's making the rest of me feel. I'm down to 4 pills a day, 1 after each meal and 1 at bedtime. I'm not getting sick on my tummy, but it doesn't feel good either. I'm making sure I eat with it. Lord knows how much weight I will gain before this is over. I'm trying to not think about that part. My hip feels wonderful at least. I've managed to get some nasty sinus drainage yuck and but I'm guessing that it's not from the prednisone but just a regular allergy/sinus flare up. 8 days of the medicine left to go.
