I have one right now and don't know how I got it. I have tried using Carmex for cold sores but it seems to be getting bigger with it! Can anyone tell me what the heck they are and how do I get rid of it?
I haven't had one since I was about 20 years old!!

Here's what my dr told me. They are caused by a virus that can actually be dormant in your body for years. Stress can bring them out, nutritional deficiencies and for us ladies, hormonal changes....yet another thing to blame on those lovely hormones.... Lysine will help prevent them, although I would check with my dr. first. A small glass of buttermilk is said to be a great remedy. I can't stomach it though.... I guess I would have to decide which is worse; the cold sore or the buttermilk....... They can also be caused by too much stomach acid. Eat lots of bran cereal and avoid spicy or citrus type foods. HTH!
