I would love to trade notes on anyone who suffers from a chronic illness, especially one in the auto-immune family.
I have two diseases in the auto-immune family. Systemic Lupus and Diabetes.
Being chronically ill poses alot of challenges that other sickness and disease does not.
Anyone else?

My father is diabetic, Carolyn. He has been for diagnosed 25 years ago, when he was 40 yrs. old. What kind of information would you need about diabetes? I could ask him what he found helps him and what he has to suggest, but if you needa specific question, don't hesitate. One thing I know about diabetes, not only food has too be watched, but stress---when my father is very stressed about a situation, his diabetes climbs. He also has trouble controling his diabetes when he is sick, with fever and a cold or virus...

I didn't know that stress made diabetis worse. Wow! Makes sense though. My dad, 2 grandfathers, a grandmother and at least 1 uncle have it and I was just tested again for it. Luckily I don't have that one. OK Everyone...nobody does anything to stress out Carolyn ok!!!!

Yes. stress not only makes the sugar level climb but stress also makes my lupus worse..It is basically a no win situation. I can try to avoid people and things that cause me negative stress, but as my doctor put it...even good things cause stress. I live day to day, do what I can and have too, and pray alot.
Thanks Debbie for warding off the bad stessors for me..Love ya
Lucie, I don't want to know anything specific. I have been thru the diabetes classes and most of the time I do quite well. Lately my blood sugar has been way up though and that isn't normal for me. For the first year I had it under complete control. I too have noticed that when I am ill it climbs even higher. When I had the virus in April for over 8 weeks it was up most everyday. And being sick or stressed also escalates my lupus flares. Seems like a viscious cycle to me...

Carolyn, Something in your last post got me to thinking. I normally suffer from low blood sugar but when I was under lots of stress and they did bloodwork my blood sugar levels were elevated (very unusual for me). So they got some of my other problems under control (hypothyroidism and we are working on the chronic systemic yeast) and reduced my stress level and my blood sugar levels tested normal again. Hmmmm.....don't ya just hate bad stress?
Love you too!

sounds like you have some auto-immune things going on as well Debbie. Stress is so hard to deal with. The last week or so I have been off the charts..Hopefully now things will settle down for me..I can tell the after effects of too much stress..Alot of pain today..
