I'm not being very successful at losing weight. However, I've decided that there are some other changes I need to make in my lifestyle.
I need to get rid of some toxic substances such as :
trans fats MSG aspartame
Any links or books that would be useful?

I did find some information about trans. I just haven't got back to you. I haven't read your links yet. In Australia MSG has been cut out, not completely though. I have been thinking about our diet and additives. We don't eat many, but if I am serious I will have to rethink the stock cubes or buillion cubes. It is a small thing probably. We can get real stock, not sure how that would go with seven of us though. I used to boil meat, it hasn't happened much lately.

Good luck Denise. I know it isn't easy with todays foods. {{hugs}}
Denise, I am trying to make changes here as well.
With a strong family history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart attacks, not to mention my mom's breast cancer, I have to get serious about my health.
I recently bought a book called "The Maker's Diet" by Jordan S Rubin. I am hoping it will have some ideas.

I have put a few resources on the board. I am trying to encourage myself because I haven't done much about lowering my husband's colesterol. Cooking from scratch so far has resulted in us buying more butter, which would not be helping. hearthandhome.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=tips&action=display&thread=1129355630 Meal planning goals, I have left a few out. They are from an article about good fats. The rest are: 1. East mostly skinless chicken and lean meat trimmed of fat. 2. Buy low-fat or reduced fat dairy foods, such as milk, yoghurt, cheese and ice-cream. 3. Use a variety of healthy oils for cooking, such as canola, sunflower, soy bean, olive, peanut, vegetable, sesame, avocado, walnut and mustard-seed oils. 4. Use dressings or mayonnaise on salad made from healthy oils. 5. Don't eat full-fat cheese and ice-cream more than twice a week. 6. Limit cakes, pastries, chocolate or creamy biscuits to once a week. It is easier for me because we have heart foundation ticks on foods, which makes it easier to choose. With these guidelines you can still have biscuits etc. hearthandhome.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=tips&action=display&thread=1129354860There have been some new recipes added to the Skinny Farm. Some include recipes for good fats. hearthandhome.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=lowWe used to boil meats like silverside, a pickled beef? The next day we always made Italian soup with a blend of dried beans, cabbage, tomato paste and macaroni, plus carrots, celery and onion.
