This may be silly, but does anyone have good tips for growing strong fingernails? Mine grow and then break off way down at the base. I've tried always keeping them polished and several "nail strengtheners". I also take a very good vitamin....

Tam, all I can tell you to do is drink milk. Avoid fingernail polishes that claim to be strengtheners.
I have "glamor" length nails and I don't do anything to them. I do drink milk, and file them ONLY when they break or get a slight snag in them. Then in ONE direction only. I use to drink the Knox for Nails stuff too but boy was that nasty! I paint them on occasion but remove tha paint as soon as possible. Something in the polish turns mine brittle.
Hope this helps

Tami~
I recently discovered a very good vitamin I get at GNC , it is for nails, skin and hair. I have the best nails I have ever had.

I think the best medicine is stop fretting and worrying over them. My daughter had the worse nails for years, I mean years. Then one day she showed me fingernails--strong ones. I was amazed and asked her about them. She said she just got busy with other things and forgot about fussing with her nails and one day she looked at them and was amazed that they were healthy, long and strong. I think maybe too much fuzz over them make them weaker. For me, I find my nails grow faster and stronger in the spring/summer when I am messing in dirt!!! Go figure.

Ouch Tami, that sounds painful! I can't help you though, mine grow like weeds and are very strong. I'm generally cutting them back lately. I think you got some great advice from the ladies though. Let us know what you try and how it works out for you.

Mine are like that. They grow a certain length, then break off.
I went about 2 weeks ago and "got nails". They're the length I like, strong, and the polish will stay on till I go get em filled. I know it's not very frugal. I usually keep them a few months then have them taken off for awhile. After I went I regretted it. I thought "just another expense". Oh well.....lol
