Campers: What is your one piece of advice for first time campers? Something you wish you had known or done the first time around?

Mom and ellise you are too much. Of course I grew up nOT camping- Mom's idea of roughing it was a hotel with no pool, and I agree! However my dh grew up camping and my kids have expressed interest, so I am willing to try it once. I just don't want to make a huge investment in equipment and then hate it. 'course I guess it could just be a daddy thing in that case! Also I will NOT camp in TX in Summer, has to be fall or spring, I could melt:)

Tam, where are you guys gonna go camping? Lets see you are just outside of Dallas right? New Braunsfel would be nice, then ya'll could ride Abbott's River Ratt! too cool, I love rafting. How far is that from you? about 4 hours I'm thinking.

Personally, I think that camping, sports and other outdoor things should be Daddy's territory and mom should stay home or at the Inn..:-)

Yeah, but if Mom stays behind then Dad will let the kiddos get into all sorts of mischief, and who knows he may not even watch them close enough! ROFLMBO! No, Mom I think you should go along just to make sure Dad is doing his job right

Not sure where (or when) we'd go. It will have to be someplce scenic and with lots to do. Nothing to rustic for me. My dh family used to go to Colorado and fish. Fishing is o.k, but i can do that for about 30 minutes. I would probably take lots of books:)

So are you going ent camping, or do you have a camper? I've been camping all my life and would be more than happy to advise you. I'm really bad at remembering people's kids. Do you have any, or is it only dogs?

Advice #1: Take an extra pair of shoes. Of course we camp anywhere there'a a flat spot.

karen, If we camp it would be tent camping, although I really wanted to try a cabin first, but they can be quite pricey. This whole camping thing may be something I only do once:)
