Well, there is no backyard pool fun or playing under the sprinklers this year. We aren't allowed to have toys or water the lawn.
I was so surprised to see my old house this year, it looks like a desert.
However, it is mostly green here which is nice, and the kids can go to the town pool.
It is just so hot. We have had two really hot days, but today has been nice so far.
Pity about the smoke in the air. It is so dry because of a drought.
There is still plenty of water coming down the Mitta River, which we are very lucky to have.

No, it is quite a few miles away.
When you talk about your river cupcake it reminds me so much of how it was where I grew up. I was very much a river flats girl. When I go out of town for groceries sometimes here, when I come home, the first sight I have of our town here, is the river flats with the town behind. I love that. That part was still green a week ago, but nowhere as green as the time before that.

Last week when we got the newspaper it said they had cancelled the Show (county fair) because of the drought.
Today we have a notice that we are on stage 3 water restrictions. It explained why which helped me to understand about the cancelation of the show.
We have to use the carwash to wash the car, and have reduced watering days to two a week. Will have to read it some more.
How about you Violet?

What a shame about the Show.
As for car washing, there is a way around the restrictions, which is probably good practice at any time, although I must stress that I have a small car.
I catch the last rinse water from the machine, which is a bucket full. Then I use an Enjo car washing mitten and a Sabco (I think) microfibre cloth that was in the car aisle at Kmart, and a spray bottle of something called waterless car wash.
I spray a very small amount of the wash onto the car, then dip the Enjo in the bucket and rub it over the wash. The Enjoy must be really wet at all times, or it will scratch. Then do that to another small section of the car. As I finish each section, I go back to the previous one and wipe it with the microfibre cloth which removes any missed bits as well as drying it. By the time I've done the whole car, it's dry and clean. I start with the windows.
The whole process takes about 15 minutes and uses a half bucket of water.
Nowhere near as much fun as squirting a hose everywhere, but efficient and I don't end up drenched.

Thanks Violet. I really didn't want to go to the carwash.

We have been using our rinse water. We are also happy we didn't take my nappy bucket/diaper pails to the op-shop. Some are stuck together though, so hopefully they will come apart.

Our water restrictions are coming back down now, not sure how everyone else is going.

No change here. We went up a level a month ago, and the restrictions have remained the same.

Back to buckets again for us, even though the river is high.

No further change in restrictions here. Water storage has increased a bit, too, which is wonderful.

It has been raining quite a lot overnight here. This morning though I have been thinking we may need to install watering systems as we are going to be quite busy and the times given to water are very restrictive.

The new place we are hopefully moving to has low water restrictions. Just this week though I heard the federal government has taken over, so who knows what will eventually happen. At least we are on flatter ground and could possibly get a bore.

The government hasn't taken over yet apparently. However, the town we are moving to is on stage 3 as well. So we will have to work on a system here, and use the washing machine, bucket method there, I guess, though they do have two systems I think. We have potted up so many plants, it is going to take some work to establish them.
